SAN FRANCISCO — Crypto payments platform MoonPay has launched an integration inside ChatGPT that allows users to initiate cryptocurrency purchases directly through the ChatGPT App Store, according to information released by OpenAI and MoonPay.
MoonPay said in a May 22 post on X that it is the first cryptocurrency on-ramp integrated into ChatGPT’s app ecosystem.
According to information provided in ChatGPT’s App Store, users can search for MoonPay in Apps, connect to the service and purchase digital assets without leaving the ChatGPT interface.
The MoonPay app supports purchases using credit cards and offers access to Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, USDC and more than 100 additional digital assets across more than 30 blockchain networks.
Goal to Simplify Process
OpenAI said the integration is designed to simplify the purchase process by reducing the number of steps users typically take to acquire cryptocurrency.
According to MoonPay’s description in ChatGPT’s App Store, users can specify purchases using conversational prompts — such as requesting a specific amount of an asset on a selected blockchain — and receive a prefilled checkout link. Transactions are completed on MoonPay’s website using payment methods that include cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and bank transfers.
Users who already maintain a MoonPay account can complete purchases without creating a new account, according to the company.
OpenAI launched the ChatGPT App Directory in December 2025 as a marketplace for third-party applications that operate directly inside ChatGPT. The company said the platform allows developers to submit applications for review and publication while enabling users to access services without leaving the conversation interface.
‘Beyond the Traditional Plug-Ins’
According to OpenAI, the app ecosystem is designed to move beyond traditional plug-ins by embedding services and transactional capabilities directly into conversations, allowing users to complete activities such as shopping, content creation and discovery inside ChatGPT.
Separately, MoonPay announced May 14 that it launched MoonPay Headless Onramps, a native crypto checkout platform designed to support one-tap cryptocurrency purchases through Apple Pay, cards and Google Pay across the United States, the European Economic Area and more than 100 additional countries.
MoonPay said that platform allows partner companies to maintain control of the checkout experience while MoonPay manages payments infrastructure, compliance and identity verification behind the scenes.
