CU Lunch Local to Return on October 13

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — CU Lunch Local will return Oct. 13 for its 15th year, inviting credit unions and their employees to spend at locally owned restaurants, retailers and other small businesses, the initiative said.

Founded by Michigan Business Connection in 2012, the annual event encourages credit unions, leagues, credit union service organizations and industry partners to direct everyday purchases toward businesses in their communities. Although Oct. 13 is the official date, participants are encouraged to take part throughout International Credit Union Week, according to CU Lunch Local.

“Fifteen years ago, CU Lunch Local started with a very simple idea: credit unions support their communities, and one of the most direct ways we can do that is by supporting the businesses within them,” said Bill Beardsley, CEO of Michigan Business Connection.

What Participation Can Include

Participation can include ordering meals from a locally owned restaurant, organizing a team outing, giving employees an allowance or reimbursement to spend locally, or buying staff gifts and supplies from a neighborhood business. CU Lunch Local is also encouraging participants to post photos, recognize the businesses they support and use #CULunchLocal on social media.
