Experian Upgrades ChatGPT App to Allow Consumers to Access Credit Score WIthin Platform

LONDON — Experian has upgraded its ChatGPT app to allow consumers in the United Kingdom to securely access their personal Experian Credit Score within the AI platform, a move the company says is the first of its kind in the country.

Experian said the integration gives consumers authenticated access to their personalized score and information about their credit history without leaving ChatGPT.

The company said the service addresses growing consumer use of artificial intelligence for financial information. Experian research found 62% of regular ChatGPT users use AI tools for help reaching their financial goals.

Previously, AI platforms could provide only general information about credit scores based on publicly available sources, Experian said.

What Consumers Can View

By connecting an Experian account within ChatGPT, the company said consumers can:

  • View their personalized Experian Credit Score, which uses a scale of up to 1,250
  • See a breakdown of information used to calculate the score
  • Track changes in their score and score band over time
  • Compare current account offers.

Experian said it powers the majority of lending decisions in the U.K., including eight in 10 credit card applications.

Privacy & Security

The company said the integration was designed with privacy and security protections intended to prevent consumers’ credit scores from being exposed to or used by the AI model when generating responses. Credit scores are displayed through Experian’s secure, authenticated experience.

Consumers seeking additional information will be directed to Experian’s app or website, where they can access their full personalized credit report and receive tips for improving their score, according to the company.

What Research Found

Experian said its research found 91% of regular ChatGPT users would find an Experian ChatGPT app helpful and 86% said they would trust such a service. Data privacy was the most important factor influencing that trust.

The company also found 38% of users ages 18 to 34 identified learning more about personal finance as one of their top financial goals, although younger consumers remain among those least likely to have checked their credit scores.

The company added the integration is part of Experian’s strategy to make credit information available through channels consumers increasingly use for financial questions, particularly younger consumers who are turning to AI for information.

Experian said consumers can access the service by adding the Experian app in ChatGPT and connecting their Experian account through a secure sign-in process. New Experian customers can sign up for a free account through the company’s mobile app.
