EL PASO, Texas — GECU, one of the largest locally owned federal credit unions in Texas and New Mexico, said it provided commercial financing for Desert Commons West (DCW), a new apartment complex on the West Side of El Paso, Texas, which is now nearing its completion of construction.

The financing marks one of GECU’s most significant commercial lending projects to date, and reflects its ongoing mission to expand access to housing in its community, the credit union said.
“We are proud to support the DCW development and help elevate the El Paso community,” said Chris Tompkins, Senior Vice President – Chief Commercial Services Officer at GECU. “Through commercial financing initiatives like this, we’re reaffirming our commitment to expanding housing opportunities in the communities we serve.”
Once finalized, DCW, located at 208 Isela Rubalcava Boulevard, will provide 276 new apartment units for El Paso residents, offering a variety of amenities.
“It’s been rewarding to see the strong demand for this community. DCW started as a vision to provide high-quality housing to El Paso’s west side, and GECU and my partners believed in that vision as much as I did. Now we’re seeing it come to life,” said Jordan Furman, Developer of DCW. “Residents are enjoying a dynamic amenity package in a location that offers convenient access to everything the city has to offer. None of this would have been possible without GECU’s support and financing,” Furman added.
