Go Tell it on the Mountain (CU): New President and CEO Announced

WAYNESVILLE, N.C.—Mountain Credit Union has named a new president and CEO. 

The $370-million Mountain CU has selected Suzie Shook to lead the organization, succeeding Amy Woody, who retired after serving as CEO since 2020.

Shook brings more than 30 years of credit union experience to the role, having dedicated her entire professional career to Mountain Credit Union since joining the organization in 1993 as a member service representative.

“Over the course of her tenure, she has served in a wide range of leadership positions, including loan officer, branch manager, compliance officer, vice president of risk management and operations, and executive vice president,” the credit union said in a statement. “Most recently, she worked closely with senior leadership and the board of directors on strategic initiatives, organizational leadership, and operational excellence.”

Played ‘Pivotal Role’

The credit union added that throughout her leadership journey Shook has played a pivotal role in strengthening Mountain Credit Union’s compliance, fraud prevention, risk management, and operational programs. She built and led the organization’s compliance team, developed policies and procedures, implemented monitoring and reporting systems, and worked extensively with the board on regulatory compliance and Bank Secrecy Act oversight.

Shook holds several respected industry certifications, including Certified Credit Union Executive, Credit Union Compliance Expert and Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist. She is also a graduate of the Southeastern Regional Credit Union School at the University of Georgia.
