Madry has focused her career on underserved communities, smaller credit unions and cooperative principles. Under her leadership, Afena FCU developed programs aimed at improving members’ financial well-being and cultivated an organizational culture emphasizing service.
As chairwoman of a national small credit union committee, Madry advocated for smaller institutions and drew attention to their challenges. Her work led to an invitation to testify before the U.S. Senate Banking Committee on behalf of credit unions nationwide.
Internationally, Madry provided award-winning assistance in disaster recovery efforts in Dominica in the Caribbean and traveled to Africa, where she earned the International Credit Union Development Educator designation. She also has been inducted into the African American Credit Union Hall of Fame.

Banning began her credit union career as a computer operator and advanced through a series of positions before becoming president and CEO of REGIONAL FCU. She retired earlier this year after overseeing growth, expanded services and an organizational culture emphasizing respect, teamwork and support for employees and directors.
Reflecting the credit union’s roots in serving educators, Banning made financial literacy a priority. She helped establish in-school credit unions at 13 schools in northwest Indiana, introducing students to savings, money management and credit union membership. The programs received recognition and awards. REGIONAL also offered continuing financial education for members of all ages, including instruction on money management and fraud prevention.
In the 1990s, Banning helped establish Credit Union Centers of Northwest Indiana to expand shared branching access. The initiative later became part of a larger cooperative network serving credit unions in Indiana and Illinois.
She spent 22 years on the Credit Union Centers board, including three as president, helping oversee a credit union service organization responsible for approximately 300 Indiana branches and connected to a nationwide shared branching network of more than 5,400 locations.
