Just 6 Months After Opening, NCUA Liquidates African Diaspora FCU

ST. ANN, Mo. ― Just six months after opening, NCUA has liquidated African Diaspora Federal Credit Union. The $547,479 credit union has 183 members as of its most recent call report, which showed a sharp decline in net worth over the last six months. 

According to NCUA, it made the decision to liquidate African Diaspora FCU after determining the credit union was insolvent and in violation of numerous provisions of the Federal Credit Union Act and NCUA Regulations, including operating in an unsafe and unsound manner. 

ADFCU posted a loss of $48,692 as of mid-year, with net worth of -2.28%. It closed 2025 with $12,968 in net income and net worth of 11.06%. 

As the CU Daily reported here, African Diaspora FCU opened its doors in mid-December of 2025 after being chartered by the African Diaspora Council Inc., a local cultural organization.

At the time the credit union opened, a spokesperson told St. Louis public radio a key focus would be serving non-English-speaking Africans. Employees collectively speak more than 20 major African languages.
