LCLFCU Sets Up Relief Fund for Victims of Explosion at Paper Mill

LONGVIEW, Wash.–Lower Columbia Longshoremen Federal Credit Union has established a relief fund to help the community following the deaths of 11 people in an industrial accident here.

The relief fund was also established by the Cowlitz Wahkiakum Central Labor Council and the Association of Western Pulp & Paper Workers.

The bodies of all nine missing workers at Nippon Dynawave Packaging Company, a paper maker, have been recovered after a chemical tank exploded. The total death toll is 11 people. The explosion occurred when a tank containing white liquor, used to make paper, ruptured, releasing hundreds of thousands of gallons of chemicals.
