MARION, N.C. — McDowell Cornerstone Credit Union has named Sarah Washburn as its new CEO.
“I am committed to building upon our strong foundation, supporting our members through every stage of life, and ensuring that McDowell Cornerstone Credit Union continues to be a trusted financial” partner,” Washburn said in a statement.

The $38-million credit union was chartered in 1967 as Marion Manufacturing Credit Union to serve employees of Marion Manufacturing Co. and their families, and later expanded its field of membership eligibility through a community charter and adopted the McDowell Cornerstone name.
Today, membership is available to people who live, work, worship or attend school in McDowell County, N.C.
Washburn is a lifelong McDowell County resident and previously worked for Wells Fargo. Her professional profile describes more than 15 years of banking experience, and McDowell Technical Community College records show she has served on the college foundation’s board.
The credit union’s announcement said her priorities include maintaining personalized service and local decision-making while expanding financial-wellness opportunities and investing in employee development.
