OCEAN CITY, Md.–The MD|DC Credit Union Association as named Rick Wieczorek, president and CEO of the NIH Federal Credit Union in Rockville, Md. as its 2026 CEO of the Year. The honor was presented during the organization’s annual meeting.
According to the MDDCCUA, since becoming CEO in 2013, Wieczorek has guided NIHFCU through a period of growth, operational change, and industry disruption while keeping the credit union focused on its mission of serving members. Under his leadership, NIHFCU has advanced major technology and service initiatives, including a core conversion, expanded digital banking capabilities, online account opening, and enhancements to lending systems, the association said.
Punching Above its Weight
“We punch above our weight because of Rick,” NIHFCU Board Chair Steven Berkowitz said in a statement. “Our recognition as a best place to work and one of the nation’s top credit unions reflects the culture and vision he has helped build.”
“I had the privilege of working closely with Rick during his service as Association Board Chair and saw firsthand his thoughtful leadership and unwavering commitment,” added MDDCCUA President and CEO John Bratsakis in a statement. “He skillfully guided NIHFCU through the pandemic while generously lending his time, perspective, and support to the Association. Rick has always been willing to do what it takes — even appearing as Captain America at our annual convention to promote training to protect seniors from financial exploitation. Congratulations, Rick, on this well-deserved honor.”
Wieczorek helped NIHFCU navigate economic uncertainty, industry challenges, and the operational demands of the COVID-19 pandemic while maintaining a steady focus on employees and members, the association said.
‘Outstanding CEO’
“Simply put, Rick is an outstanding CEO,” said Don Christoferson, Board Member and Treasurer at NIHFCU. “When you have a leader who has earned the trust and respect of employees, volunteers, and the board, the organization is well positioned to succeed.”
Under Rick Wieczorek’s leadership, the NIHFCU, in recent years has received several “best place to work” awards as well as being recognized by Newsweek as one of the Best Credit Unions In America for 2026, the organization added.
