Michael R. Williams Named Market President by TDECU

HOUSTON–TDECU  has named Michael R. Williams as the new market president for the Greater Houston Region and Head of Commercial Lending. In conjunction with Williams’ appointment, TDECU also announces the promotion of former Market President Laura Whitley to Senior Vice President of Marketing.

With more than two decades of leadership experience in the banking industry, Williams brings strategic insight and a strong track record to this pivotal role, the credit union said.

Williams started his banking career at Texas Commerce Bank in 1992 and most recently served as Executive Vice President and Senior Sales Manager of Commercial Lending at Frost Bank. His background in mergers & acquisitions, syndications, and corporate and industrial lending has equipped him with a deep understanding of risk management and the competitive landscape of the Houston banking market, TDECU said.

“I am looking forward to using all my expertise to support TDECU’s members,” said Williams. “I’ve seen firsthand impact that a financial institution like this can have on its Members, and I am excited to be a part of that journey.”

Added TDECU President and CEO Isaac Johnson, “Michael’s proven ability to foster strong client relationships and lead high-performing teams through the intricate world of mergers & acquisitions and commercial lending is exactly what TDECU needs as we head into our next chapter,” said Johnson. “He is dedicated to improving the Member experience and making the connections that are crucial for our growth strategy.”

A graduate of the University of Houston, Williams is deeply committed to community engagement. He has served on numerous boards over the past 30 years. Currently, he serves on the Texas Southern University Foundation, City of Houston TIRZ #7 (Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone) board, and Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He currently serves as Board Chair of Hope for Families, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening families through community-based programs and initiatives.

In conjunction with Williams’ appointment, TDECU also announces the promotion of former Market President Laura Whitley to Senior Vice President of Marketing.

“Representing TDECU in our community and making the connections to grow this credit union was a great honor,” said Whitley. “I look forward to applying what I learned from our Members and creating strategies that will improve their experience and help amplify our brand.”
