GERMANTOWN, Md. – Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union is supporting Montgomery College students with a $50,000 contribution aimed at expanding access to education, career readiness and long-term financial well-being. The initiative reflects the credit union’s longstanding commitment to the Montgomery County community and to creating opportunities that help people move forward.
“Mid-Atlantic FCU has been part of Montgomery County for more than 55 years, and we believe strong communities are built by creating opportunities for people to build better futures,” said Tamara Schiavone, CEO of Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union. “This investment is about helping students complete their education, prepare for meaningful careers and take the next step toward greater financial independence.”

The $445 million Montgomery County-based credit union is among the first organizations to participate in Montgomery College’s Pathways to Excellence Partnership Program, which connects the College with local businesses, employers and community organizations to expand opportunities for students. Montgomery College serves more than 47,000 students and plays an important role in developing the workforce that supports Montgomery County and the greater Washington, D.C., region.
“Financial well-being goes beyond what happens inside a branch or through a banking app,” Schiavone said. “It’s also about access to education, skills and opportunity. We see tremendous potential in this partnership and in what we can accomplish together for students and our community.”
Mid-Atlantic FCU presented the $50,000 contribution to the Montgomery College Foundation during an August 11 event at the College’s Rockville Campus. The Foundation now has the flexibility to direct funding where it can have the greatest impact for students pursuing degrees and workforce credentials. Funding may support scholarships, experiential learning opportunities, workforce certification exams and other resources that help students overcome barriers to completion and career success.
“Through Pathways to Excellence, we are bringing employers, businesses and community organizations together to expand what is possible for our students,” said Dr. Jermaine F. Williams, President of Montgomery College. “Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union is one of the very first organizations to step forward in this way, and we are deeply grateful for their investment in our students and their futures.”
