MSUFCU Makes $75K Grant to Habitat for Humanity

EAST LANSING, Mich. — MSU Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) is proud to announce a $75,000 Community Multiplier grant to Habitat for Humanity Grand Traverse Region to tackle the critical shortage of affordable workforce housing in Northern Michigan.

The funding, secured through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis’ Community Multiplier-Member Match program, will directly support the Homes at Carriage View Commons development, a 15-home neighborhood planned for Garfield Township in Grand Traverse County.

More than simply providing a temporary place to live, Habitat partners purchase their homes with affordable mortgages that will give families the opportunity to build equity, establish long-term financial stability, and put down roots in a community they are proud to call home.

The county remains one of the fastest-growing regions in Northern Michigan, creating an increasingly competitive and challenging housing market for essential workers and middle-income families.

“Access to safe, affordable homeownership is foundational to the financial well-being of any community,” said MSUFCU President and CEO April Clobes. “As housing costs continue to outpace wages across Michigan, we are proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity Grand Traverse Region and FHLBank Indianapolis to turn the vision for Carriage View Commons into a reality. Investing in workforce housing isn’t simply about building homes — it’s about building long-term security for local families and strengthening the economic fabric of Grand Traverse County.”

The Community Multiplier – Member Match is a grant program available to financial institution members of the FHLBank Indianapolis. The program offers grants up to $60,000 each with a minimum 25% matching commitment from the member financial institution to target affordable housing initiatives.

“We are deeply grateful to the entire team at MSUFCU for their partnership and continued support in championing affordable housing and financial stability,” said Wendy Irvin, President and CEO for Habitat for Humanity Grand Traverse Region. “The FHLBank Indianapolis grant represents a meaningful commitment to Habitat GTR’s Homes at Carriage View Commons. This award truly demonstrates MSUFCU’s leadership in advancing solutions to our regional housing challenges.”
