EAST LANSING, Mich. — MSU Federal Credit Union has surpassed 400,000 members, a milestone the credit union marked with a summer campaign featuring promotions, giveaways and special offers, according to a release.
Founded in 1937, MSUFCU now serves more than 415,000 members through 38 branches, with more than $9.3 billion in assets and more than 1,400 employees, the credit union said.
As the CU Daily reported here, MSUFCU announced this week it is seeking to merge with UTFCU, which serves the University of Texas, to create a $13 billion institution.
“Reaching 400,000 members is an important milestone, but what means the most to me is the trust that 400,000 people have placed in us,” President and CEO April Clobes said in a statement.
Clobes said membership growth enables MSUFCU to help more people improve their financial well-being and invest in products, services and community partnerships.

Summer Celebration
The credit union’s Celebrate 400 campaign encouraged members to use products and services intended to support their financial well-being. The campaign also recognized employees for their contributions to the membership milestone, MSUFCU said.
Among the promotions was a sweepstakes for a Polaris Ranger 500 utility vehicle, which visited several MSUFCU branches across Michigan. A total of 1,326 members qualified for the drawing.
Cynthia Brown of Warren won the vehicle and picked it up at MSUFCU’s headquarters.
“I’ve been a member since 2025 and I love it. You have great customer service. It’s amazing,” Brown said.
Campus Roots
MSUFCU began operating out of a desk drawer (its foundation is known as the Desk Drawer Fund) on the Michigan State University campus during the Great Depression, providing faculty and staff with access to affordable financial services, according to the credit union.
It has since expanded into communities throughout Michigan and Illinois while maintaining ties to the university through financial education, sponsorships, volunteer work and partnerships supporting students’ educational goals, it said.
