WASHINGTON–NCUA’s brand-new chairman, John Crews, will make his first appearance before a credit union audience this week when he addresses America’s Credit Unions’ Congressional Caucus.
The annual conference takes place Sept. 14–15 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, where the trade group said credit union executives, communicators, and system advocates to engage directly with congressional leaders and administration officials will convene.
“The event connects credit union leaders with national policymakers at a pivotal juncture in the legislative calendar, providing direct insight into policy developments while advancing the movement’s legislative priorities on Capitol Hill,” according to Americas Credit Unions.
Agency’s 14th Chairman
As the CU Daily has previously reported, Crews was sworn-in as the 14th Chairman of the NCUA on August 24, 2026. Immediately prior to joining the NCUA Crews served as deputy assistant secretary for Financial Institutions Policy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where his principal focus centered on regulation, financial infrastructure, and safety and soundness matters. He previously served as Policy Advisor to House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and as Policy Director for the Senate Banking Committee. During the first Trump Administration, Crews served at the National Economic Council in the White House as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy.
Also appearing before Congressional Caucus will be Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott (R-SC) and House Majority Whip Katherine Katherine Clark (D-MA).
