New CU Affordability Toolkit Introduced by State Leagues to Highlight CUs’ Financial Value

WASHINGTON — The American Association of Credit Union Leagues said it has launched a new communications toolkit designed to help credit unions highlight the financial value they provide to members amid continuing affordability pressures nationwide.

According to the organization, the Credit Union Affordability Toolkit is being made available at no cost to credit unions through the league system and is fully customizable for local use.

AACUL said the toolkit is part of a broader series of shared communications resources being rolled out during 2026 to support credit unions’ education, outreach and advocacy efforts.

Better Communication

The organization said the toolkit is intended to help credit unions communicate how their not-for-profit structure and member-focused business model can help consumers manage rising household costs through lower loan rates and fewer fees.

According to AACUL, credit union members save hundreds of dollars annually on average through lower borrowing costs and reduced fees, helping ease financial pressure and improve financial well-being over time.

“The League System is focused on delivering practical, high-impact resources that benefit credit unions of all sizes,” Brad Miller said in a statement released by the organization.

Miller said the shared underwriting approach among leagues allows the system to provide “customizable, no-cost resources” that help credit unions explain their value proposition in what he described as a challenging economic environment for consumers.

Integration With Current Outreach

According to AACUL, the toolkit was designed to be integrated into credit unions’ existing outreach efforts across digital channels, earned media campaigns and in-person community engagement.

The toolkit includes:

  • Member-facing newsletter, blog, email and website content
  • Social media graphics and posts
  • A customizable press release template
  • A budgeting worksheet intended to support financial conversations with members.

Customizable Materials

AACUL said all materials can be customized with local branding, contact information and institution-specific data.

The organization said the Affordability Toolkit builds on earlier releases in its 2026 toolkit initiative and reflects an ongoing effort to strengthen credit unions through shared messaging and collaboration across the league system.
