WASHINGTON — Newly appointed National Credit Union Administration Chairman John Crews will meet directly with defense credit unions this month during a special session of the Defense Credit Union Council’s Military Advocacy Committee, DCUC announced.
DCUC said Crews will address members of the committee and participate in a brief question-and-answer session, giving defense credit unions an early opportunity to engage directly with the federal regulator following the start of his chairmanship.
The council characterized Crews’ appearance as a significant first for its Military Advocacy Committee and an opportunity for credit unions serving military and other communities to discuss regulatory and advocacy issues directly with the new NCUA chairman.
“We sincerely appreciate Chairman Crews’ willingness and availability to meet directly with DCUC’s Military Advocacy Committee so early in his tenure,” DCUC President and CEO Anthony Hernandez, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel, said in a statement.
“His participation reflects a meaningful commitment to transparency, access, and open dialogue with the credit unions serving communities across America, including our nation’s military, veterans, civil servants, and their families,” Hernandez added.
Committee Helps Shape DCUC Advocacy
The Military Advocacy Committee is a member-led forum through which defense credit unions identify and discuss policy priorities affecting their institutions and the communities they serve, according to DCUC.
The committee’s discussions help inform DCUC’s engagement with regulators, policymakers and other federal officials on issues that include access to financial services, military mission readiness and the financial well-being of servicemembers, veterans, civil servants and their families.
Following Crews’ remarks and the Q&A, committee members are scheduled to receive updates on DCUC’s recent advocacy activities, ongoing policy discussions and priorities for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026.
Direct Communication Cited
DCUC Chief Advocacy Officer Jason Stverak said the meeting will allow credit unions to communicate their concerns and perspectives directly to Crews.
“This special meeting offers credit unions a direct opportunity to share their perspectives and engage Chairman Crews on the issues shaping our shared advocacy goals,” Stverak said.
“We are grateful for his availability and for the message it sends about proactive engagement, regulatory accessibility, and the value of hearing directly from credit unions whose missions are closely tied to military readiness and our nation’s financial resilience,” he added.
