MINNEAPOLIS — U.S. Bank has launched a mobile banking feature that allows customers to transfer eligible recurring bills and subscription payments to its debit or credit cards without visiting individual merchants’ websites, the bank announced.

The feature, called Payment Switch, is available to new and existing customers through the Bills & Subscriptions dashboard in the U.S. Bank mobile app. Customers can use it to change payment methods for expenses such as streaming services, cellphone service and utility bills, according to the bank.
The dashboard also lets customers review upcoming charges, track recurring expenses, identify changes in payment amounts and cancel eligible subscriptions, U.S. Bank said.
The bank said those features are designed to help customers identify price increases, avoid unexpected charges and decide which subscriptions to keep.
Expanding Its Switching Tools
U.S. Bank developed Payment Switch with financial technology provider Atomic, which also powers the bank’s automated direct deposit setup service.
Payment Switch is the third component of U.S. Bank Easy Switch, a service that combines account opening, direct deposit transfers and recurring payment transfers. The bank said the service is intended to simplify moving a banking relationship to U.S. Bank and reduce the risk of missed payments during the transition.
The launch is part of an expansion of the bank’s Bank Smartly offerings, which include checking and savings accounts, a Visa credit card, rewards benefits and digital banking tools. Other recent additions include Protect 360, an identity, privacy and credit monitoring service, according to the bank.
