North Island CU Joins in International CU Day Celebration

SAN DIEGO– North Island Credit Union joined credit unions around the world in celebrating International Credit Union Day with a special event at its San Diego headquarters, bringing together local credit union leaders, community partners and members to recognize the enduring impact of the cooperative financial movement.

Celebrated annually on the third Thursday in October, International Credit Union Day marks the contributions credit unions make to the financial well-being of their members and communities worldwide. This year’s 78th anniversary was celebrated under the theme “Cooperative Finance: A Steady Signal in a Noisy World,” highlighting the trust, consistency and people-first values that continue to distinguish credit unions in an increasingly complex financial environment.

“International Credit Union Day is a wonderful opportunity to bring together the people who share a commitment to helping members build stronger financial futures and strengthening the communities we serve,” said North Island Credit Union President/CEO Steve O’Connell. “In a world where people face more choices, more information and more competing messages than ever before, credit unions remain grounded in relationships, trust and a clear sense of purpose. Those values continue to guide us even as the ways we serve our members evolve.”

During the celebration, a proclamation recognizing the contributions of credit unions to San Diego’s communities was presented by the office of California Sen. Catherine Blakespear (D-38). Wheelhouse Credit Union also participated in the event with North Island Credit Union.
