North Star Community CU Launches Aurora Community Foundation

MADDOCK, N.D. — North Star Community Credit Union has launched the Aurora Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit intended to expand charitable support for rural communities and people whose work serves others, according to the credit union.

The foundation builds on North Star’s history of volunteerism, sponsorships, scholarships, donations and community partnerships. The credit union said it established the organization in response to growing demand for community-focused assistance, particularly in rural areas.

Foundation Priorities

Guided by a mission to serve people who serve others, the foundation will support programs promoting unity, economic stability, education and community development. Its priority groups include agricultural communities, military members and their families, educators, first responders, cooperatives and medical professionals.

‘Heart of Who We Are’

“Since North Star Community Credit Union was founded, serving our communities has always been at the heart of who we are,” said Bob Herrington, the credit union’s president and CEO and chairman of the Aurora Community Foundation board. “The Aurora Community Foundation allows us to build upon that legacy in an even greater way by creating new opportunities to invest in the people and organizations that make our communities stronger every day. Together, we can create lasting impact for generations to come.”

The foundation plans to pursue charitable giving, strategic partnerships, educational opportunities, community development initiatives and future funding programs, according to North Star. Its initial efforts will focus on North Dakota and the surrounding region, with the possibility of expanding its reach through future collaborations and community engagement.
