EUGENE, Ore. — Peak Credit Union has committed $500,000 toward development of a planned 24-court pickleball complex at Lane Community College and is using the contribution to launch a matching campaign that could generate up to $1 million for the project.
Peak Credit Union said it is partnering with the Emerald Valley Pickleball Foundation on the planned regional facility, which would include two championship courts and 10 covered courts.
Under the Peak Community Challenge, the credit union will match community donations dollar-for-dollar through Dec. 31, up to its $500,000 commitment.
“Our roots in this community run deep, and becoming Peak hasn’t changed that commitment,” Peak Credit Union CEO David Tuyo II said in a statement. “Rather, it has strengthened our ability to act on it.”
Tuyo said the investment is intended to create a facility where people can connect, remain active and participate in recreational activities.
“By putting $500,000 behind this project and inviting the community to join us, we have an opportunity to turn one investment into something even greater and help build an asset that can serve Lane County for generations,” he said.
Complex Planned for Lane Community College
The pickleball complex is planned for land contributed by Lane Community College near Interstate 5, according to Peak.
The project is intended to provide recreational opportunities for people of different ages and abilities while also serving as a gathering place and attracting pickleball tournaments to the region.
Peak said Travel Lane County estimates that a single regional tournament at the complex could generate more than $2.5 million in local economic activity.
The project also has received $500,000 approved by Lane County voters and a $750,000 commitment from the city of Eugene, according to the credit union.
Peak Cites Legacy of Community Support
Peak said the contribution builds on community investments previously made by Northwest Community Credit Union, which became part of Peak following its merger with TwinStar Credit Union.
The combined credit union has operations in Oregon and Washington.Peak said the larger organization intends to use its expanded regional presence and resources to continue supporting communities previously served by both legacy credit unions.
