GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.–A credit union here has become part of history and raised funds for a good cause.
Consumers Credit Union, in partnership with Nothing Bundt Cakes, hosted an event at the Special Olympics Michigan campus that brought together 659 participants to officially break the world record for the largest cake walk ever held.
It also raised $20,000 to benefit Special Olympics Michigan and the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan’s – be nice. program.

Held on the Consumers Credit Union track at the Unified Sports and Inclusion Center, the event was a “joyful celebration of inclusion, mental health awareness and community spirit. Attendees of all ages joined in the fun, walking to music in hopes of winning one of 16 grand prizes, while enjoying a carnival-style atmosphere filled with food, games and entertainment,” the credit union said.
‘Record-Breaking Moment’
“This was more than a record-breaking event, it was a record-making moment for our community,” Chief Marketing Officer Lynne Jarman-Johnson said in a statement. “We’re proud to have hosted such an impactful day at our new track, and even prouder of the generosity and enthusiasm shown by everyone who participated.”
