BLACKSBURG, Va. — Virginia Credit Union is expanding its sponsorship of Virginia Tech Athletics with an agreement that will put the credit union’s logo on the field at Lane Stadium and tie Hokies first downs to donations to a children’s hospital, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.
Beginning with the 2026 football season, Virginia Credit Union’s logo will appear between the 20- and 30-yard lines at Lane Stadium, giving the credit union a prominent position during Virginia Tech home games and television broadcasts.
The expanded agreement was facilitated by Virginia Tech Athletics and its multimedia rights holder, Playfly Sports, the Winston-Salem Journal reported.

‘Tremendous Momentum’
“We have tremendous momentum within our athletics department and partnerships like this are another example of how we intend to build on it,” Brian White, Virginia Tech vice president and director of athletics, said in announcing the agreement.
White said the $7.3-billion Virginia Credit Union has deep roots across the state and that the expanded relationship is intended to create value for both organizations and Hokies fans.
“As we continue to position Virginia Tech to compete at the highest level nationally, we have to be bold, innovative and intentional about identifying new opportunities to generate resources and elevate our brand,” White said.
Credit Union Adds Charitable Component
The partnership extends beyond the on-field branding and will include promotions, fan experiences and community initiatives involving Virginia Credit Union and the university, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.
One of those initiatives, called “Down to Help,” will result in Virginia Credit Union making a donation to Carilion Children’s for each first down recorded by Virginia Tech during the season.
The amount to be donated for each first down was not disclosed.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Virginia Tech football and be part of the excitement surrounding the team,” Virginia Credit Union President and CEO Chris Shockley said. “As Virginia Tech continues to build momentum, this sponsorship gives us a meaningful opportunity to support the Hokies, engage fans, and strengthen our presence in the communities we serve.”
‘Deeper Purpose’
Shockley said the charitable component gives the sponsorship an impact beyond football.
“Down to Help gives every first down a deeper purpose, turning the excitement of Virginia Tech football into meaningful support for children receiving care at Carilion Children’s and families across our community,” he said.
The expanded relationship is the latest example of credit unions using college athletics partnerships to increase brand visibility while incorporating community and charitable initiatives.
