Ohio League Continues to Share its ‘Affordability Agenda’ As Election Day Approaches

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Credit Union League has shared a five-part affordability agenda with the state’s two major gubernatorial candidates, calling for action on housing costs, financial fees and financial literacy.

The league said its Advocacy Action Committee outlined the proposals in letters to Vivek Ramaswamy and Amy Acton ahead of the November elections. Credit unions offered to work with the next governor and administration to help lower costs for Ohio residents and their families, the league said.

The agenda follows roundtable discussions hosted by credit unions across the state over the past month to highlight their efforts to help members manage financial pressures.

The league said the agenda focuses on:

  • More affordable housing.
  • Lower and fewer fees.
  • Reinvestment in Ohio communities.
  • People-driven financial services.
  • Financial literacy.

“Ohio credit unions are proud to serve 3.3 million Ohioans, and we work every day to meet the financial needs of each of those Ohioans, as well as the families they love, the communities they live in, and the small businesses they patronize,” the credit unions wrote in the letters.

The letters argued that credit unions’ structure as member-owned, not-for-profit financial institutions positions them to help residents retain more of their earnings.

Ohio credit unions serve more than 3.3 million people, according to the league.
