PAHO/WHO FCU Unveils New Name, Branding Set to Debut in September

WASHINGTON–— PAHO/WHO Federal Credit Union has announced that effective Sept. 1 it will begin operating under a new name: Bienestar Federal Credit Union.

The credit union’s current name is based on its field of membership, employees and affiliated individuals connected with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Bienestar is a Spanish noun that translates to well-being, welfare, wellness or comfort in English. It describes a holistic state of being happy, healthy, and prosperous, encompassing mental, physical, and spiritual health, according to its online definition.

“The new name and brand celebrate the credit union’s longstanding commitment to financial wellness and the overall well-being of its members and the communities it serves,” the $322-million credit union said in a statement. “Since 1949, the credit union has served members with a mission centered on helping people live healthier financial lives. Over the years, its credit union family has continued to grow. What began with roots in the PAHO and global health community has expanded to welcome and serve a broader membership from some of the region’s leading healthcare, education, and public service organizations.”

‘The Heart of Who We Are’

“For generations, financial wellness has been at the heart of who we are and the people we serve,” CEO Miguel Boluda, Jr. said in a statement. “Our new name honors our PAHO/WHO roots, reaffirms our mission and more clearly reflects the broader community we proudly serve today. We ’re excited about this next chapter and grateful to have our members with us on this journey.”

Beginning Sept. 1, the credit union said members and the public will begin seeing the Bienestar Federal Credit Union name reflected across the organization’s website, signage, communications, and branding materials. PAHO/WHO FCU has more than 7,100 members.
