LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Peach State Federal Credit Union has named Walt Martin its next CEO, with Martin scheduled to join the $1.1-billion credit union Jan. 4, 2027, as CEO-elect before succeeding longtime CEO Marshall Boutwell following a transition period.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Martin is currently deputy superintendent of Gwinnett County Public Schools in Georgia, with Peach State saying he brings more than 30 years of leadership experience, including more than two decades in executive positions spanning finance, business operations, human resources, technology, risk management, strategic planning and organizational change.

Boutwell, who has led the credit union for more than 32 years, will become CEO emeritus after the transition, according to an announcement from Peach State.

Jennifer Houston, chair of Peach State’s board, said directors were impressed by Martin’s business knowledge, vision and ability to lead organizational change. She said his experience managing complex financial operations, leading large teams and working with governing boards would benefit the credit union.

Shared Commitment

“Most importantly, Walt shares our commitment to putting members first,” Houston said. “He is a thoughtful, inspiring leader who understands that Peach State’s strength depends on our members’ trust and our employees’ dedication.”

“Peach State has a strong foundation, an important mission, and a proud legacy of serving our member-owners and strengthening the communities in our footprint,” Martin said. “I look forward to building upon that foundation while helping shape the organization’s future.”

Peach State said Boutwell helped grow the institution to more than $1.1 billion in assets during his tenure. He will work with Martin during the transition, sharing institutional knowledge and helping maintain continuity in operations and strategic priorities.

The board credited Boutwell with guiding the credit union’s growth and maintaining its focus on member service.
