Primaries Being Held Across Several States Today; Here’s Who Credit Unions are Backing

WASHINGTON — Primaries are being held in numerous states, with credit unions backing a half-dozen candidates.

Primaries are set for Oklahoma and Washington, D.C.; there is a primary runoff in Alabama; a special primary election for the U.S. House in California; and runoff elections in Georgia.

America’s Credit Unions’ political action committee is supporting:

  • Rep. Barry Moore in the Alabama Republican Senate primary runoff.
  • Rob Adkerson, the former chief of staff to Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., in the Georgia runoff. Adkerson is seeking the 11th District seat being vacated by Loudermilk.
  • The four incumbents running for reelection in Oklahoma.

There is an open Senate seat in Alabama, where Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., is running for governor.

“We’re looking forward to adding another six more wins, hopefully, to our success so far this season,” Trey Hawkins, head of political affairs with America’s Credit Unions, said during a call with the media.

Looking to Utah

Looking ahead to next week, Hawkins highlighted the Utah primary, where the trade group is investing heavily in support of Democratic candidate Ben McAdams as he runs for the newly created 1st District seat. The independent expenditure campaign includes direct mail, digital video and radio advertisements, as well as a dedicated campaign website, America’s Credit Unions said.

“McAdams is seeking to represent a district that is home to one of the most concentrated populations of credit unions in the nation, making the race especially significant for the credit union movement,” the organization said in a statement earlier this year.
