REACH Conference Coverage: How Associations are Supporting New Mission Statement

PALM DESERT, Calif.–The president and CEO of California’s Credit Unions and Nevada’s Credit Unions told credit unions gathered here that their associations are supporting a new mission statement in three different ways.

Jeremy Empol at REACH.

Jeremy Empol told the organizations’ REACH Conference that one of those ways includes the very meeting they are attending.

“We have a new mission statement, and that is to advocate to protect and strengthen credit unions so you can support your members and your communities,” said Empol. “And how we do that is in three different ways. One, through what we call direct advocacy. Take a moment and think about what does advocacy look like? You can picture us walking the halls in the capitol. You’re going to think about logging on and (seeing) political summaries all the things that are going on right now. Those are our direct apps.

“The second way is our membership in grassroots advocacy, and we do this through how we bring the family together,” Empol continued. “This is our opportunity to talk about all the work that your credit unions are doing, and also to build champions to the next generation of (credit union supporters). This is inherently important to us and our future. And the last piece is what we call credit union affairs–that’s what you’re doing simply being here. It’s our education, it’s our training and our compliance services and all the pieces that you’ll find also in our exhibit hall with our partners.”
