WASHINGTON– The Alabama Credit Union Association, a subsidiary of The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates, has named Rep. Dale Strong (AL-05) has been named the 2024 Federal Lawmaker of the Year in Alabama.
He was formally honored during America’s Credit Unions Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington
“Credit unions play an essential role in the financial health of our communities, and I’m proud to support policies that enable them to succeed,” said Strong, who is a member of the Appropriations and Homeland Security Committees. “It’s an honor to be recognized by Alabama credit unions, and I am committed to ensuring Alabamians retain access to essential and affordable financial services.”

‘Dedicated Advocate’
“Congressman Strong has been a dedicated advocate for credit unions, demonstrating his leadership on key issues that support their growth and governance,” Samantha A.M. Beeler, President of The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates, said in a statement. “His commitment to advancing policies that strengthen credit unions ensures they continue to serve their members and communities effectively. We are proud to honor him for his continued service and look forward to working together on future initiatives.”
Elected to Congress in 2022, the league said Strong demonstrated his support for credit unions by co-sponsoring the Credit Union Board Modernization Act when it was introduced in the 118th Congress.
“This move was a crucial step in helping credit unions enhance their governance and better serve their members,” the organization said. “This legislation has now passed the House three times. He has also worked closely with The League to address emerging challenges and ensure credit unions have the resources to protect their members’ financial security.”

“Congressman Strong’s leadership on important issues like credit union governance, regulatory oversight, and consumer security make him an invaluable ally to credit unions,” Grace Newcombe Colvin, VP-federal advocacy and strategy at The League. “Long before he was elected to Congress, Strong created and has since maintained his reputation as an effective and community-oriented leader, making him most worthy of this recognition.”
Before his time in Congress, Strong served as chairman of the Madison County Commission, where he led initiatives that brought major economic development projects to North Alabama, including Toyota Mazda, Polaris, and GE Aviation. His work has helped strengthen the region’s economy and improve the quality of life for countless Alabamians.
