While his first days are not being spent in Washington, the trade group said that Simpson and his wife have relocated to the nation’s capital, which a spokesperson said Simpson believes is a priority as he succeeds the retiring Jim Nussle.

“Scott is, first and foremost, focused on listening, learning and leading with purpose,” the spokesperson said during a call with the media, adding that Simpson is working to listen to credit unions in the field while also “remaining actively engaged on Capitol Hill and with the administration.”

‘Pivotal Moment in History’In a statement made on America’s Credit Unions’ website, Simpson said, “The credit union movement is at a pivotal moment in history. Credit unions have always stood apart by putting people before profit, and that mission is on full display during this government shutdown. As we work together with our credit union members, leagues, and system partners, we will strengthen our collective voice in Washington and ensure that credit unions remain a trusted source of financial opportunity in every community. Now is exactly the right moment to show how indispensable credit unions are to our nation.”
