SACRAMENTO, Calif.–One person who has posted comments on Reddit opposing the proposed merger between California-based SAFE Credit Union and Seattle-based BECU is reporting that initially they repeatedly had their posts removed by a person who alleged there is or has been a “secret agreement” to block such content.
The identify of the commenter, posting under the user name GurlNovel5929, is known to the CU Daily.

That person shared this exchange below and also said they have been in contact with a Reddit moderator who has said they have investigated the matter and the posts have now been reinstated and will not be blocked.

Why are you deleting my post on the Safe CU merger. Safe CU is a Sacramento business, so why do you say it’s nothing to do with Sacramento? Thanks

We only allow pro Safe CU merger with BECU discussions on this subreddit. Sorry. Had to be deleted. We cannot allow for this kind of discourse on that topic. It only acts to slow the merger. Maybe change your opinion on the topic? That could work.

Do you work for Safe CU? It’s not discourse; it’s an opposing opinion. Isn’t that what Reddit is for. I have posted anything that is not factual, so how is that discourse?

Sorry that policy is according to the agreement we signed. It is not in our best interests to allow that kind of negative discussion of the merger. It goes against the best interests of Safe CU and BECU. Please only discuss this matter in a positive way from here on out.
Discussion of the merger in that way could put it in jeopardy. I am not allowed to approve discussions of the merger online in that way.

“We signed?” Who is paying you? As a member of Safe, I am allowed to discuss the facts, even if they are contra to the rhetoric from those who are getting millions of dollars. Is Safe compensating you to quash any comments not in favor of the merger?

I cannot discuss specifics of the agreement. Just know that it’s there. Now look, between you and me, I am going to need you to keep the existence of this agreement a bit of a secret, okay? It isn’t in our best public interest to let others know that there is this agreement out there to keep discussion of the merger positive, okay? I need a promise from you that you won’t go out and tell anyone about this.

So first they suppress a member from speaking and asking merger-related questions at the annual meeting, and now this? Wow.
BECU has done the same with Glassdoor and Reddit comments. Somehow they get anything negative to be taken down……
