SAN ANTONIO — Security Service Federal Credit Union has bought the former Sunoco corporate campus near The Rim and plans to move employees from its La Cantera office to the property as it expands its San Antonio operations.
The property at 19003 W. Interstate 10 includes 275,000 square feet of office space, according to the San Antonio Business Journal. The purchase price was not disclosed. The newspaper reported that the ownership transfer was recorded Sept. 15 and that the property was last appraised at $44 million by the Bexar Central Appraisal District. An appraisal value is not necessarily the amount paid.
The $14.3-billion Security Service said employees at its La Cantera office will relocate to the acquired campus, though it has not set a timetable. The credit union said the additional space will accommodate future growth and give employees more opportunities to work together. It did not say how many employees would move or whether its existing headquarters at 15000 W. Interstate 10 would be affected.

“This is an investment in our people, our future and the community we’ve proudly called home for 70 years,” President and CEO Michael Chapman said in a statement reported by the Business Journal. “This investment is about more than a building. It’s about creating the capacity to grow, collaborate and better serve our members while reinforcing our commitment to San Antonio and the people who make our success possible.”
The campus previously served as the headquarters of San Antonio-based NuStar Energy, a pipeline and storage company acquired by Dallas-based Sunoco in 2024. Sunoco subsidiaries subsequently bought the property, according to the Business Journal. The Express-News reported that NuStar had sold the headquarters to Truist Financial in 2023 and leased it back before Sunoco repurchased it.
