SUPERIOR, Wis.— In the wake of the closure of the Faith Food Pantry here, Superior Choice Credit Union (SCCU) is offering some relief with a drive-through food giveaway at its Tower Ave. location today.
Starting at 8 a.m., the $730-million SCCU said community members can drive to the back lot at the location to receive a box of nonperishable food. Employees from Superior Choice have 200 boxes of food to hand out, stocked full of food purchased from Super One, according to KQDS.
Superior Choice told the news outlet it believes it’s important for local businesses to help out when important community resources, like food pantries, disappear.
Feeling ‘Hardships’
“I think we know that even some of our members are having hardships right now,” Bre Wassberg, the vice president of marketing and communications at SCCU, told KQDS. “Maybe they’re still paying their mortgages and their car payments, but then that leaves other gaps. So, we’re just trying to help out where we can for people in the community and for our members.”
Staff from the credit union added they were inspired after seeing the success of Superior YMCA’s food box giveaway they held last week.
SCCU’s food box giveaway will continue until supplies run out. The credit union has approximately 37,000 members.
