WASHINGTON—With members of the military set to miss their first paychecks on Wednesday as a result of the government shutdown, President Trump said “we have identified funds.”

In a post to Truth Social, Trump said he will “direct our Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to use all available funds to get our troops PAID on Oct. 15. We have identified funds to do this, and Secretary Hegseth will use them to PAY OUR TROOPS.”
Reuters reported that a Pentagon official said about $8 billion originally slated for research, development, testing and evaluation would be used to pay members of the military.
Plan Is Nixed
Earlier, GOP leaders nixed a plan to vote on a standalone bill for military pay.
As the CU Daily has been reporting, the Defense Credit Union Council has been consistently calling for members of the military to be paid.
