SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Four credit unions in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula are joining to offer a free seminar aimed at helping consumers recognize fraud, improve online security and respond to suspicious calls, messages and financial requests.
Soo Co-op Credit Union, Limestone Financial Credit Union, 4Front Credit Union and U.P. State Credit Union said in a joint statement they will present “Protect What Matters Most” on Sept. 9 at the Sault Country Club in Sault Ste. Marie.
The seminar will feature Michigan State Police Trooper Brandon Smith, who will discuss current scams, cybersecurity threats and strategies consumers can use to reduce their risk of becoming fraud victims.
According to the credit unions, Smith’s presentation will focus on practical steps consumers can take to protect personal and financial information, identify warning signs of fraud and respond to potentially suspicious activity.
Credit Union Panel
A panel of credit union experts will follow the presentation and answer questions about fraud prevention and account security.
The credit unions said the program is intended for adults of all ages, including older consumers, caregivers and family members who assist others with managing finances or technology.
The four credit unions said the event is intended to give residents practical information they can use to protect themselves and their families from fraud and cybersecurity threats.
