Wheelhouse CU Awards Five Scholarships

SAN DIEGO– Wheelhouse Credit Union is once again investing in San Diego’s next generation of environmental leaders, awarding five $1,000 scholarships to local college-bound students through its annual Sustainability College Scholarship Program.

Established in 2005, the annual Sustainability College Scholarship Program recognizes graduating high school seniors who combine academic achievement and community service with a commitment to creating a more sustainable future.

“Sustainability has long been an important part of Wheelhouse’s commitment to the San Diego community, and these students show how meaningful environmental leadership can begin anywhere — in a classroom, at home or through a project that brings people together,” said Wheelhouse President/CEO Lisa Paul-Hill. “Their initiative, creativity and dedication give us great confidence in the future. We are proud to support their education and help them build on the positive work they have already begun.”

Each recipient recently graduated from a San Diego County high school and plans to attend an accredited college. Students were selected for their academic achievement, leadership, public service and commitment to making their schools and communities more sustainable.

Wheelhouse created the Sustainability College Scholarship Program in 2005 to recognize local students who share the Credit Union’s commitment to environmental stewardship. The scholarships complement Wheelhouse’s Badge of Honor Scholarship Program for students from San Diego County first responder families. Since the programs began, Wheelhouse has awarded $147,000 in scholarships to San Diego County students.
