WASHINGTON —CU Student Choice marked its 18th anniversary with a campaign offering advice to college-bound students and awarding $2,500 scholarship fund contributions to three of its credit union partners.
The “Words of Wisdom” initiative invited CU Student Choice employees and credit union partners to submit advice and encouragement for students preparing to attend college.

As part of the campaign, three participating credit unions were randomly selected to receive $2,500 each for their scholarship funds:
- First Capital Federal Credit Union
- OE Federal Credit Union
- Sea Air Federal Credit Union

‘What Credit Unions Do Best’
“For 18 years, Student Choice has helped credit unions support students and families through one of life’s most important milestones,” President and CEO Scott Patterson said in a statement. “This campaign reflects what credit unions do best: strengthen communities, share knowledge, and invest in the next generation.”
Among those participating was Ciara Pimentel, marketing specialist at OE Federal Credit Union.
“We are incredibly proud of Ciara and appreciate her taking the time to represent OE Federal by sharing such thoughtful and encouraging words of wisdom for today’s college students,” said Bernard Burdios, OE Federal’s director of lending services.
Burdios also thanked CU Student Choice for the $2,500 scholarship fund contribution and its support of students pursuing higher education.
$5-Billion in Loans
CU Student Choice said it enables credit unions to offer private education loans that are held on their own balance sheets.
Since its launch in 2008, the CUSO said it has helped more than 300 credit union partners originate more than $5 billion in private education loans, assisting 138,000 families.
